Brickstuff Magnetic Switch Set - Normally Open - ACORN05

Product Description

Now fits inside a Technic Half-Pin (included).  If you're looking to control your lighting installation using some sort of motion, this is the switch for you.  This is a NORMALLY OPEN magnetic switch, which means it will turn your lights ON when a magnet is close and OFF when a magnet is removed.  The kit also includes two micro magnets, which are small enough to fit inside the stud hole of a LEGO® jumper plate.

When would you use a switch like this?  If you wanted to control power to an enclosed lighting installation without needing to open the housing every time to turn power on and off, this switch would be a good choice.  You could mount the magnet under a LEGO® brick, plate, or tile, and use the adding or removing of that element as the trigger to turn power on or off.

This switch would also be useful for controlling light when some action was taken-- for example, when a door in a LEGO® Modular Building was opened or closed.  You can use this switch to mimic real-world control scenarios, and you can control even the largest lighting installations.

Here is a quick video of the magnetic switch in action.  Note that this video shows the older, larger version of the magnetic switch, but the new, smaller switch operates in the same manner.  The lights being controlled turn ON when a magnet is close and OFF when the magnet is removed.

What new uses will you dream up for a switch like this?

This kit includes one normally-open magnetic switch (mounted inside a Technic Half-Pin) with 6" connecting cable, two micro magnets, and a controlling PC board with terminal block for connecting the magnetic switch, two standard Brickstuff connectors (one for power and the other for the lights being controlled), and two green LEDs (one indicates whether power is applied and the other indicates whether the magnetic switch is on or off).  You'll need a small slotted screwdriver to connect the two wires from the magnetic switch to the green terminal connectors on the controlling PC board.
